Welcome to My Life, Revised. If you could change one decision from your past, where would you start? Maybe you already know. You've gone over it enough times. You can remember what you were thinking, why it seemed reasonable, and how much you wish you'd chosen differently. It's easy to imagine that somewhere on the other side of that decision, there's a life you would rather be living. This is a fictional story about someone who gets to find out. Derek Wayne Ryan is thirty. He spends his workweek waiting for the weekend, then gets to Sunday night wondering where it went. There are people he likes and things he wants to do. Somehow, when the time comes, he's usually too tired. He tells himself that a better job and a little more money would help. Other people seem to be getting somewhere. He keeps having to start another Monday. Then a journal arrives in the mail with his name stamped on the cover. The letter inside says he can use it to change a choice he made in the past. It has to be his decision, something he could reasonably have done at the time. The change takes effect while he sleeps on Sunday night. When he wakes up, he's living with the result. His memories, though, stay the same. Someone remembers spending time with him. He remembers staying home. There's evidence that he was there, and he has no idea what it was like. It's a small change. But once he believes it worked, he starts thinking about everything else he could fix. He has plenty of ideas. And a journal full of unused pages.
